What is it all about?
National Digital Agriculture Day has officially been earmarked as a day of recognition of the contributions made to the country’s burgeoning agritech sector. The National Digital Agriculture Day in Nigeria is a chance to join hands with other agritech startups on the path of breathing new life into agriculture, by supporting even more smallholder farmers and increasing food production not only in Nigeria but across Africa.
Why do we celebrate it?
The day is expected to serve as a vehicle to highlight the essential role that agriculture plays in building and maintaining a strong economy while encouraging other players in the sector and the public to participate in spreading the positive message about agriculture.
Why is Digital Agriculture very important?
The adoption of digital farming has helped eliminate risks and uncertainties by giving Food chain players access to big data and algorithms to manage their crops. For farmers, there is access to advanced methods to troubleshoot crop and livestock management up to date, so they are not alone in making decisions.
There is an improvement in the flow of processes at the food industry level due to better efficiency, optimization of the supply chain, and better industry decision-making. Digital farming offers a way also to improve quality control and assurance, and it flows into the entire rural community. The effects only grow from there as farmers achieve improved environmental outcomes.
