Akindele was part of the panelist for the first session theme, ‘Governmental Policies and Schemes Supporting Agriculture: Industry opportunities and Favorable Business Models’. In agreement with the theme of the session, he streamlined his discussion to focus on ways to foster deeper collaborations across all sub-segments of the agriculture value chain.
Akindele explained that in the current competitive environment, members of the value chain face numerous challenges during his presentation. Value chain partners and stakeholders need to work together to help deal with such challenges. By entering into alliances and collaborating with partners, the resiliency of the supply chains is reinforced. In fact, it has been realized that many successfully commercialized innovations in the agric space emerged through productive collaborations.
Trust, commitment, decision synchronization, and incentive alignment are some of the basic ingredients to creating a peaceful and highly collaborative agricultural value chain. He said “Members of the chain should have their priorities aimed at increasing visibility within the circle, understand the interdependencies within the chain, ensure that information shared should be constructive, not destructive. Rather than focusing too much on rivalry, members should be concerned with creating opportunities for wealth distribution amongst stakeholders”. Akindele advised that members must leverage technology and data as this avails the possibility of taking up highlighted ingredients for collaboration as it will help increase interaction and transparency in the circle.
